McGilchrist & Roth Buildings to be Future Home of Doty & Company

SALEM, Oregon (May 10, 2013) – Starting in January 2014, the new home of Doty & Company will be the McGilchrist & Roth buildings, a pair of historic buildings currently undergoing renovations in the heart of downtown Salem.

The buildings, both built in 1916, are located on the northwest corner of State and Liberty streets. The Roth Building, owned by Theodore and Emil Roth into the 1970s, first served as the family’s grocery store with the YMCA occupying the second floor; later, the building partially housed the Woolworth’s department store. The McGilchrist Building, owned by the prominent McGilchrist family into the 1960s, housed the Capital Drug Store for a good portion of its lifetime.

CD Redding Construction began the renovation project in March 2013; the project will include several transformations. The upper floor, which has remained empty and unused for decades, will undergo reconstruction into nine apartments of various sizes while the main floor will be completely renovated, including historical restoration of the ceilings and other original parts of the building. The basement floor will be used for office space and storage.

The exterior of the building will also undergo a remodel, installing large storefront windows and awnings along State and Liberty streets and restoring the brick walls to their original condition.

The buildings bring several opportunities for Doty & Company to improve and expand on the services it provides to its clients and the community; the company will gain approximately 2500 square feet in offices and meeting spaces as well as a first-class 40 seat conference room, to be used for training and events.

Ownership of the buildings has also provided the owners an exciting opportunity to become a part of the Salem downtown community. “It’s just been a passion and a dream to own a business downtown and live with that business,” said Gayle Caldarazzo-Doty, an investor in the project and wife of Doug Doty, who owns Doty & Company.

Tours of the buildings will gladly be provided upon request. A grand opening is being planned upon completion of renovations in January 2014.
