Expecting a Refund from the Oregon Department of Revenue?

Border 2

Expecting a refund from the Oregon Department of Revenue (ODOR)? You can check the status of your refund on the ODOR website and clicking on “Where’s My Refund.” Please be advised that the ODOR announced that taxpayer refunds could take longer to arrive this year.

When there’s a tax surplus credit, or “kicker,” more returns are flagged for review due
to calculation issues. Those issues are most commonly either a math error in the calculation
or because of a change in filing status. If a taxpayer’s filing status changed from married
filing jointly to married filing separately or single since their 2016 return, staff have to
manually calculate what portion of the kicker goes to each taxpayer.

To check the status of your refund for your personal tax return, you will need to following information:

  • Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer ID Number (ITIN)
  • Filing Status
  • Total Amount of Your Oregon Refund

Tax Scams: What to Know to Protect Yourself

Border 2

If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS

Report it to the US Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA):
1 (800) 366-4484 or click here to file a report online

Report it online to the Federal Trade Commission by clicking here

What Scammers will do, but NEVER the IRS

  1. Call about what taxes you owe without mailing an official notice first
  2. Demand a payment without allowing you to appeal or question the amount due
  3. Request a specific payment method, i.e. prepaid debit card
  4. Ask for payment over the phone
  5. Threaten to have the taxpayer arrested for non-payment

Pre-Loaded Debit Card Scam
The caller claims to be from the IRS and states that the taxpayer owes money and demands immediate payment. Usually via a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. With threats of arrest and/or suspension of their driver’s license, the caller can be aggressive and insulting.

These Scammers Often:

  1. Use common names and bogus IRS badge numbers
  2. Demand payment via gift cards (iTunes, Prepaid Debit Cards)
  3. Modify their Caller ID to appear as the IRS is calling
  4. Know the last 4 digits of your social security number
  5. Send fraudulent IRS emails to support their call
